Dave Zeller

Retired in 1987 after 35 years of Government service with the Corps of Engineers and Federal Aviation Administration. Entire career was spent in the power generation and power systems field, 25 years was spent in Alaska. During the final 10 years of employment with the FAA I was the Alaskan Representative to the National Power Committee and Canadian Power Committee. With the advent of solid state navigational aid and communication facilities, and related computer control and monitor equipment, reliable uninterrupted electrical power was imperative for its effective operation. This committee was charged with the task to investigate, analyze and provide recommendations toward the end product of providing high quality and dependable power to all facilities in the National Airspace System. In this capacity I traveled extensively throughout Alaska, Canada, the lower 48 and to Washington D.C. Headquarters.

In 1994 we moved permanently to Scotts Valley and our boy gave me a Mac SE that was gathering dust. After a few senior center classes and within one year I had a LC11 which immediately became slow so I installed a $600 accelerator. By now I was entrapped so in 1997 I purchases what then was a BigmamaMac 604/132 and could waste time in a much faster mode. Soon to be followed by a Umax flatbed scanner. I am a Tuesday afternoon Mac Lab assistant and am somewhat experienced with Internet, PageMaker, Print Shop, Printmaster, Excel and Quicken. My newest toy being a Digital camera. I teach classes at the Center, serve on the Coordinating Council and volunteer with the Macintosh Special Interest Group. I keep all our financial records on Quicken. Utilize E-mail to our son at Duke University, Granddaughters in eastern colleges, a niece in Japan and keep abreast of retired government employee and union scuttlebutt. I am the editor of the Santa Cruz Elks Lodge #824 monthly newsletter utilizing PageMaker. If I am not at the Senior Center or Elks Lodge you will find me working as a Docent at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
